Refinishing wheels

I have a set of 8 bolt aluminum wheels off a 1996 F250. There is some corrosion on them where the wheel weights were located. I can refinish and buff these areas but there is a coating on the wheels that must be removed first. Can anyone tell me how to remove this coating?

That coating will mostly come off with carb cleaner or something nastier . Then you could polish the entire wheel kinda a pain though . I have taken some of mine and had them sandblasted and I can powdercoat them here at home . They look very nice and last a long time .
