ok as im sure all you know the dura spark ignition system from ford was worthless. my truck was converted to a points system from the 351 clevland motors. ok it worked. keyword did. i cant get it running at all. i put a new coil in. rebuild the carb new fuel pump. before had it sort of ran but only when it wanted to. i dont even get anything now. how many volts should i have going to my spark plug on another note.

well i just a reman distributor. it was easier to do that the far around with it. but now every time i try to line it up on tdc and so on. i turn the motor over and the rotor is placed on cylinder 7 on tdc not cylinder 1.

#1 before you pull the distributor up to set the timeing-----MAKE SURE----the battery terminal IS DIS-CONNECTED.If not it can explode in your face. Now, take out #1 plug--turn the motor over until you have the #1 piston on TOP DEAD CENTER and look at the timeing marks on the harmonica ballancer to see if its lined up with the pointer on the time chain cover. If it is on. Look at the rotary button and (take a piece of chaulk and mark where the button points to. Now put the distributor cab on and locate the #1 plug wire terminal. If it is in time--the button should be on #1 wire terminal. Now if it is not. After you had dis-connected the battery. Take the distributor hold down bolt outand the hold down clamp. Lift up the distributor. It might take a little nudgeing. Now that you have it up.Turn the button around to where the button is pointing to #1 wire terminal. If it is not,You pull it back up and keep turning the distributor and lowering it down --until it points to #1 terminal. When it does.Put the hold down clamp in place and put the retaining bolt back in. Now you are in time. If it does not stay in time. The timeing chain could have jumped .If that happened. You will have to get a new chain and take the front of the engine apart to put a new one on.Good luck. You may also have a broken cam. Good luck and let us know how you done.
