keeping the truck running

i'm having a problem with the truck stayin runnin...i did a full tune up on the truck since it needed it, the only thing i didnt change was the ignition module...i was askin some people and they said it could be that overheating, its that true?

How old is carb? the idle speed could be in need of adjustment, choke sticking, or a vacuum leak at carb, intake manifold, or vacuum hoses. have you changed fuel filter or fuel pump?

i changed the fuel filter and the choke is workin fine...when i first goto start it, i push the pedal to the floor and let it up....the choke opens up about 1/8in -1/4in so thats fine...it just shuts off after running for 20mins

hard to start...like i got a new ignition module and put washers behind it to give it air flow so it doesnt overheat...could it be the solenoid on the fender? thats the only thing i didnt change when i did the tune up

i just drove the truck tonight for the first time today...it started fine and then when i drove it for like 5mins and stopped, turned it off and went inside for like 10mins, it took alittle bit to fire back up

if it was the solenoid, the engine would not rotate, so you can probably rule that out since the engine starts anyway. the carb maybe flooded, has it been rebuilt lately? Also this may not be it but has the air filter been changed because there may not be sufficient enough air reaching carb after the choke opens up. (I think I maybe way off on the last suggestion)

yeah i changed the air filter and put a k&n on it....the carb hasnt been rebuilt to my knowledge...the truck ran fine before the tune-up...could the gap be off on the plugs?

ok i didnt think about the fuel pump, but it seems like its gettin enough fuel because the filter is full...i just dont understand why it was fine before the tune up and now it doesnt wanna run

ok i got 8 more plugs so im just gonna take those ones out and put the new in...the timing can throw off the truck that bad, where it starts fine once and then its hard to start afterwards?

its probably not the timing but its a good idea to check it after the tune-up to keep engine performance at its best. keep us posted on what happens.

alright will do...thanks for all the tips on what to check...ill get onto the timing and changing the plugs tomorrow
what yearare we talking about? i had an 84 f250 with a 351 w that did the same thing. i changed the solenoid and the starter and i was on my way... good luck!

thanks guys for all the suggestions to look at...i finally got it fixed...it was the timing...whoever had the truck before me chose not to do the tune up and adjusted the timing to make it run better...the timing was off by 10degrees
