I just bought a '89 full size bronco and the fuel gauge does not work it stays at E all of the time. is this cheap or spendy to fix?

Yes. Could be cheap or spendy, and could be a pain in the butt.

Might as well just grab a seat and join the rest of us in the mile counter club. It's easier to estimate the mileage than to drop that gas tank.

Most likely the floater is pinched or cracked....and does not float in the gas tank...
they are made of plastic.

If the float sender was bad...it most likely make the gauge point to "F" (open circuit)

the bad thing about this is that you must remove the tank..

with the tank already out of the truck..

it is not much a big deal replacing the assembly

just get one that matches your tank capacity (gallons)

go to a junk yard and get a used gauge for about 20 bucks and replace it first then if dont work then the tank needs to come out to check the floater. THE cluster on those gauges are khnown for bad.
