84 f350 diesel fuel problems

Hello everyone
Have a 1984 F350 6.9 diesel. Every time I try to get it running I have to manually fill the filter and bleed the injectors. It will run until the filter gets about half empty. Took off the fuel line before the filter and cranked engine for about 10 seconds, filled about an inch and a half up a mason jar, does this seem like enough fuel? Any help would be great, Thanks!

Hi Adamhry, my first thought is that something is leaking and allowing the fuel to drain back to the tank whilst not running, or your filter is blocked.
Second your fuel pump is shot.
Third you might have water in the tank which could have allowed the cladosporium bacteria to grow in there causing blocked filter, if you have a drainplug in the tank then, after the car has been standing for awhile, drain some fuel into a glass container and see if there is gunk in the fuel, if so this can be treated by an additive.
Hope this helps.

hey-hey! i think that you should check the fuel filter box(disconnect the lines and take a couple of bolt out),open it on the bench and look inside for some green-white jelly stuff ,like a mole or something.if its a lot of it inside, replace the unit and get some fuel treatment.the second thought is a fuel injectors.
im not a pro with a diesels yet,and i work for a dealer,so we dont have a lot of old ones, but i'll check it with some older guys, maybe they know something about it:)
good luck!

Thanks for the replies.

After one large headache and a few inches of grease, a new fuel pump fixed the problem.
